Community of Love: When Poetry Came to Town (Digital Movie)
"Community of Love: When Poetry came to Town" is a digital mainly pictorial movie that covers in pictures and sound nine years of Warren Artist Market poet gatherings; in and around town, to read poetry, write poetry, talk about social issues, and fellowship.
Through this fellowship many invaluable friendships have been forged, many social barriers have been broken. To date Black, White and Native American poets and writers have gathered around town to share their experience, strengths, hopes, wit, and shade all through words.
So Ideally, We will view my short production...we my have a special (sacrificial poet) reader. We will have some wine and cheese, thank the heavens and our respective Savior, we may also talk about the Ninth Publication.
We hope this film will demonstrate how the power of the arts work on the community and individual level, in particular through the force of words and uplifted voices.

A Juneteenth Performance
Thomas Park will perform in an evening that can be described as 1/2 a one-man show and 1/2 a short dramatic reading of my play "We Gone"
The play portrays the events that occur on a small slave holding plantation, if one could call it that, when the captives receive important news.
I will also share a few new poems prepared for this event, and perform Three monologues including my friends "Frederick Douglass,", "The Queer Sufi: Abdul Dolla"
and one more interesting guest from our past.
There will also be a Special Musical guest
Mr. Frazier Williams.
We appreciate your support.

WAM 1st Friday
A Poetic Return to Main Street
Warren Artist Market (First Friday Poetry) is the longest running poetry venue in Northeastern N.C., and Southside Virginia. They are in their eighth year of what founder Thomas Park calls “Community building through literacy.” WAM poets have read, performed and entertained audiences from big cities to country roads, Main Streets, to vineyards, to parks, at weddings, on lawns and in gardens, via library programs and special funding-at times. They remain a vibrant collective of writers and performers.
The public is invited to come and fellowship with their patrons and poets; who have all grown closer together by gathering over the years. The best sounds in music; especially modern jazz to soothe and feed the soul will be provided by WAM’s own Sterling Cheston. There is always a moment for discussion at WAM readings, the poets don’t mind being asked about their work (mostly).
Food is usually available at WAM venues, but not for this night. However a nice splash of wine will be provided-while it lasts, and of course water, sugar-free drinks, and some light edibles (not that kind).
But after the show, or before the show, or before and after the show… there is a brand new CBD store across the street and a brand spanking new distillery and bar next door…so it’s another great opportunity to explore and enjoy Our Town.
Warren Artist Market Poetry events continue to be one of the hippest poetry trips in Northeast N.C. and South-side Virginia. It has been said of poetry nights “Amazing,” “The Bomb,”… and my favorite, “Well son…this is quite an accomplishment in this here bastion of conservatism…”
We have fun while we learn about each other in safe space. Come a little early to sign up for the open-mic.
This is a free public event…but donations are deeply appreciated.

L&L TED Talk: Elizabeth Gilbert - Your Elusive Creative Genius
Elizabeth Gilbert muses on the impossible things we expect from artists and geniuses -- and shares the radical idea that, instead of the rare person "being" a genius, all of us "have" a genius. It's a funny, personal and surprisingly moving talk.
The author of "Eat, Pray, Love," Elizabeth Gilbert has thought long and hard about some big topics. Her fascinations: genius, creativity and how we get in our own way when it comes to both.
